On the eve of the third night OCLBPS walked away with five outstanding awards at the annual HRC Equality Convention, National Awards Ceremony was held on March 7, 2009 at the Washington Convention Center. Among them were: -Excellence in a Ballot Initiative (Prop 8) (His Excellency, Andy Linsky) -Dinner Special Recognition Award-for Prop 8 (OC Garden Party) -Outstanding Federal Club Co-Chair Team (Tedd Lesch, Kevin Bass, Ed Todeschini, Sandra Hartness) -Federal Club Council Special Achievement Award (Andy Linsky, Sandra Hartness) And most exciting of all: - Steering Committee of the Year (Andy Linsky, Sandra Hartness, Tedd Lesch, Kevin Bass, Ed Todeschini, Tom Dreher, Eric Kenney, Nick Veach, James Minor, Carin Jacobs, Jon-Eric Lehman, Chris Goodman ) Eve of Justice: A vigil to support the overturn of Prop 8 in the California Supreme Court Posted on Monday March 2, 2009 The Human Rights Campaign is joining Marriage Equality USA and statewide pro-equality organizations to sponsor “Eve of Justice” vigils in cities across California on Wednesday, March 4. The candlelight vigils take place the night before the California Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments on the constitutional validity of Prop. 8 – the discriminatory amendment that eliminated the right of lesbian and gay couples to marry in the state. HRC encourages members and supporters, neighbors and friends to march in the vigils to show support for the overturn of Prop. 8. For more information about the vigils across the state, click here Los Angeles Los Angeles will have a community rally starting in the heart of the city on Olvera Street in Downtown LA. Meet at the plaza south of Cesar Chavez Ave, between N. Tahquitz Canyon Way from 4-6 p.m. Please bring signs and candles. Orange County The event will take place at the Fairview Community Church at 2525 Fairview Rd Costa Mesa, CA 92626 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Long Beach There will be a rally In front of Long Beach City Hall from 6pm-9pm with an open mic on marriage and what it means to you! With special musical performances. Following the rally, there will be a candlelight Vigil at the First Congregational Church at 3rd and Cedar from 9pm-9am, so that as the Supreme Court convenes on the morning of the 5th, they will see the people who's lives their decision will most affect.
